17" OUTSTANDING EARLY FRENCH FASHION/POUPEE

An exquisite early beauty with portrait-type face, resembling early dolls by Bru & Barrois.  Distinctive, classical beauty with purest pale bisque, deeply-modelled patrician features, extreme hand-cut almond-shaped eyes with pale blue glass pw eyes rimmed by black eyeliner, delicately-feathered lashes & arched brows, softly-shaded cheeks & tinted closed-mouth with slight smile, pierced ears, orig. cork pate & long, soft, antique blonde mohair wig with waves.  Bisque socket-head on kid-lined shoulderplate; incised "8" or "3" at rim.  Orig. gussetted kid body in very fine, sturdy cond. with individually-stitched/separated fingers (minor kid repairs to some gussets).  Body is clean & firm with no sagging.  Costume comprises an expertly-sewn couture period costume of the finest antique cream & pale pink-striped silk, all hand-sewn & fully-lined, decorated with elaborate, fine vertical pleats along skirt & peplum of fitted bodice; ornamented with silk rosettes along the decorative full skirt & at the back edge of full, bell sleeves.  Tiny silk bows trim the front of the bodice; her layers of undergarments are likely original & she wears antq. red leather French Fashion shoes with heels & silver buckles.  Perched upon her head is an early, antq. straw hat with pink silk ruching & a millinery rosette, which beautifully frames her lovely face & completes her wonderful presentation.  An outstanding early poupee; one of the loveliest faces I have seen, she will captivate you. 21" EARLY SIMON & HALBIG 949 FOR FRENCH MARKET

A superb early example of desirable & highly-sought model 949 by Simon & Halbig, & certainly one of the lovliest I've had the pleasure to offer.  Highest-quality doll with incredibly choice bisque; pale, flawless, & absolutely luminous; smooth as silk & further enhanced by the depth of her sculpting & the artistry displayed in her decoration.  Like the French bebes, she has the high-cut crown & flat, feathered, heavy French-style brows arching over dramatic blue spiral-threaded bulbous paperweight eyes, like the type seen on early portrait Jumeaux.  Luxuriously-ptd. lashes, barely-open mouth with desirable square-cut early teeth---two upper & one lower, full, accented lips, pierced ears with orig. earrings; orig. cardboard pate still sewn with the orig. thread to her orig. long, honey-blonde human hair wig.  Orig. chunky early-style jtd. comp. 8-ball body in the orig. patina in exc. cond. with desirable straight (fixed) wrists.  Lovely antq. costume comprises multilayered, fancily-trimmed chemise, pantaloons, & petticoat, topped by a gorgeous antique dress in the French manner done in a fine cotton lawn with yellow & tan rose print in a faux pinafore style with delicate white full, puffed sleeves that appear to be an underblouse when in actuality, the fanciful dress is one-piece.  Perched upon her head is a wonderful antq. bonnet that compliments her dress, with high-peaked top & layers of face-framing ruffles.  The finishing touch is her tiny pearl necklace on a lacy gold chain.  A beautiful doll with mesmerizing eyes, her beauty will catch your eye from far across a room; she is sure to please her new owner! 25" RARE 1860s "MRS. BUMBLEBOTTOM" CHINA

Outstanding, rare, early 1860s china affectionately referred-to by collectors as "Mrs. Bumblebottom"; this is the first chance in over 15 years that I've had an opportunity to purchase this mold & I can't praise her enough!  She wears a gentle, mischievous smile that makes her look like she is hiding a delightful secret!  Great large size with deep, sloping plate measuring 6" tall by 5 3/4" wide with excellent modelling including pert little nose, deeply-molded curls & painted black hair with exposed ears & brushstroked detail at the sides of her forehead (possibly some undetectable, minor touch-up to hair where typical rubs might normally be found; small rub over one ear).  Flawless decoration incl. light blue accented eyes that glance to one side, red lid lines, red accent line between closed lips, & softly-blushed, full cheeks.  Wonderful muslin factory-original body with wasp waist & detailed china forearms.  Layers of antique undergarments incl. lace-trimmed petticoat, pantaloons, & chemise.  Wearing a charming period dress of red cotton with delightful handsewn white featherstitching at hem & bodice; topped by a precious antique cotton apron bordered in the same red cotton featuring a scalloped heart-shape, echoed with a heart-shaped apron pocket--- all bordered with red soutache trim.  She even has her orig. red/white striped cotton/wool socks with the foot made to look like she has little red shoes on.  An incredibly warm & charming china doll in exc. condition! 11 1/2" ALL-ORIGINAL JUMEAU CHILD FASHION

Very rare & especially sought after are these lovely French Fashion dolls dressed in their totally original costumes depicting child fashion dolls rather than the commonly-found poupees or lady dolls.  This young girl came straight from France & I was very lucky to get her!  Made by Jumeau, circa 1879, she is in excellent condition with her bisque socket head that swivels on her pale bisque shoulderplate; head is incised 2/0 at the crown rim & she retains her original kid-lined mechanism inside the head.  Her white kid body is sturdy and firm and she has mitten hands.  Very nice pale bisque (some inherent, faint kiln dust as is commonly found in many of these early French dolls; not detracting or devaluing).  Huge cornflower blue bulgy paperweight eyes, delicately stroked brows & abundant lashes, softly-blushed cheeks, closed mouth with slight, sweet smile.  Orig. cork pate with nailed-on mohair wig, pierced ears with Jumeau blue drop earrings & matching blue velvet ribbon around her neck.  Wonderful all-original delft blue wool costume (some expected age mothing) in a style appropriate for young French girls in the 1870s, with fitted jacket & lace-trimmed pelerine, pleated skirt with lace trim, & a draped layer of fabric in the middle of the dress which becomes a flirty bustle at the back of the skirt, trimmed with a huge, cream silk bow.  Her orig. straw fashion hat ornamented with layers of lace & trimmings frames her face & she carries another cream silk chapeau underneath her arm.  Layers of original undergarments, light wool stockings, & her original French leather shoes complete her wonderful, orig. costume.   Beautifully-dressed and wonderfully-preserved; she is a wonderful find from France; an all-original Jumeau child fashion of great quality.
